Chiness New Year

The day of the first new moon, when the sun enters the eleventh sign of the zodiac is regarded as the Chinese New Year date.  The Chinese calendar has a cycle of twelve year and each year is named after an animal. Since each year is named after a different animal, the Chinese New Year date system makes it easily for people to remember their age.

According to the Chinese myth, Lord Buddha had called for all the animals to come to him before he left the earth.

Twelve animals came to the farewell and as a token of appreciation Lord Buddha named a year after each of the twelve animals in order of their arrival. The animal that he named after a year are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

The Chinese New Year date for 2009 is 16 January and it is the year of the Ox. Lord Buddha proclaimed that those born in each animal's year would have traits of that particular animal. As this year is an Ox year, people born in this year will be dependable, great organizers, loyal, patient as well as strong and responsible.

The Chinese New Year date depends on the Chinese calendar and always keeps changing.
