The man proposed that they should light bamboos. When the bamboos cracked they would make a lot of noise and possibly scare away the monster. The villages considered it to be a good idea and started to light bamboo as soon as the monster came. The burning bamboos made tremendous noise. The monster got scared by the loud noise and fled to his cave without destroying the village or eating any people.
The very next morning all the people congratulated each other for executing the plan successfully. From then on, people stay up late during the New Year day, lit firecrackers and congratulate and wish each other for a prosperous New Year.
