names such as Christ’s Mass, Yule Tide, Nativity, and Winter Pascha. At present, many refer to this auspicious day in its abbreviated form, ‘X-Mas’.
It is celebrated each year on the 25th December, which aptly marks the end of year. However, this date is considered as Christmas in accordance to Western Christianity and some Eastern Orthodox Churches. In some countries, this festive day is celebrated on 24th December. Armenian Apostolic Churches and the Eastern Orthodox Churches celebrate Christmas on 6th and 7th January respectively. The festival of Christmas is a day when family and friends gather to enjoy the festive spirits, as educational institutions and offices usually remain closed for the day. The legend of Santa Claus or Father Christmas closely associated with Christmas, who is said to travel from North Pole to give gifts to children in compliance to their wishes. This holiday is awaited by many children with the hope that Santa Claus is going to grant their wishes, while they are asleep. Children make a list of wishes and hang them in their rooms so that Father Christmas can read them. In fact, some of the parents buy Christmas gifts that their children desire for, and place them in their rooms.
