The festival of Holi marks the beginning of the summer season and end of winter season. In accordance to the traditions, the sister of Hiranyakashyapu, demon Holika sat in fire with her nephew Pralad who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Gifted Holika sat in the fire with the intention to kill Pralad due to his strong devotion towards Lord Vishnu. However, instead of Prahlad, Holika was put to death in this incident. Subsequent to this, the demon ruler Hiranyakashyapu, who was gifted by Lord Brahma, was put to death by the Narshima Avatar of Lord Vishnu. This incident marked the victory of good over evil, and thereby is also considered to be an auspicious day in the Hindu Mythology.
