Kwanzaa is a non-religious African American holiday which is celebrated by families, communities, and cultures. This holiday is celebrated for seven days till 26 December to 1 January. Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, professor and chairman of Black Studies at California State University, Long Beach.
The word Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase "Matunda Ya Kwanza" which means the "First Fruits" in Swahili. Every family celebrates Kwanzaa in their own way and style. The celebration includes songs and dances, African drums, storytelling, poetry reading, and a large traditional meal. On this day to greet everyone, people in Swahili create Kwanzaa Gift Basket to present to one another.
