Today, Labor Day is regarded as a day of rest and precession. Several events are held by labor organizations. Different forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art and events.
Over the years, Labor Day has evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general summer festival. This day is celebrated to acknowledge the communal and financial achievements of labor movement. Various Labor Day gifts are also exchanged among the workers on this very day.
Earlier, Labor Day was a traditional summer holiday in many pre-Christian European pagan cultures. In England, the celebration of this day include Morris dancing and crowning a May Queen. In India, this day is celebrated as May Day in association with the labor movement.
