Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan refers to the celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters. To celebrate this festival the sisters tie rakhi (usually decorated thread) around their brother’s wrist in a traditional manner. On Rakhi, brothers vow to protect their sisters from nay harm or injury that they may be inflicted with. Brothers may not be essentially in blood relations but can also be cousins, or even adopted. The historical significance of Rakhi is when Rani Karnawati of Chittor sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun to protect her from the ruler of Gujarat Bahadur Shah. On receiving rakhi from Rani Karnawati, he became emotionally touched and started from Delhi with his troops to protect her.
