Rahkhi Raksha Bandhan Happy Rakhi Celebrating Rakhi Festivals
Welcome Rakhi

"A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life."
Raksha Bandhan is a sacred Hindu festival which symbolizes the relationship of love of brothers and sisters. It arrives around mid-august on the full moon of the month of Shraavana. “Raksha” means protection and “Bandhan” mean protection. In the main ritual of “Raksha Bandhan” sisters tie a rakhi (a colorful thread) on the wrist of their brothers. Sisters pray for longevity of their brothers and brothers pledge to protect them in any circumstances through their lives. Brothers and sisters then feed each other with sweets. Raksha Bandhan is an early day for sisters. They wake up early in morning and wear new cloths after taking bathe. Sisters don’t eat anything until they perform the ‘aarti’. Then they embellish the forehead of their brothers with red vermillion 'tikka’, tie rakhi on their wrist and feed them with sweets. In return brothers give gifts to their sisters.

Sweetest Day Gifts

Raksha Bandhan comes with lot of joy and excitement for siblings. Rakhi acts as a token of love for brothers and sisters. This festival signifies pure love between brothers and sisters. Girls specially are more excited for this festival. They bring colorful rakhi or even rakhi in gold and silver. They find it a perfect day to get pampered by their brothers. Brothers too find it perfect occasion to express their love and affection through their gifts. This festival goes beyond the relations formed by blood.

Raksha Bandhan has taken a more humanitarian form these days. Women tie rakhis to soldiers, jailed prisoners, and other social discarded people to make them feel loved and concerned. Even boys who don’t have sisters get rakhis tied from girls referred as their ‘god-brothers’.
